ATMOSTFEAR

Would you dare to put your courage to the test just to fell the adrenaline rush? I'm talking about the Atmostfear, which is the third largest and longest indoor slider in the world, after Australia's and Israel's. This is one of the hippest and unusual attractions that I've seen built inside the FX shopping mall. The ticket cost around RP 50,000 during weekdays, and Rp 75,000 on weekends and national holidays.

From the moment we walked into the mall lobby, I quickly scanned around and instantly saw what we were looking for - the Atmostfear. Atmostfear is an enclosed dry slide made of stainless steel SUS 304 with clear polycarbonate cover, designed and made in Germany.

As we rode on an escalator to the seventh floor we could see the giant transparent cylindrical slide from floor to floor.

We watched in awe as the riders experienced the heart-thumping rush inside the extremely high slider that curves down from the seventh floor all the way to the first floor in approximately 12 seconds. The tube is about 28.25 meters high and 72 meters in length.

But as we were watching the riders get on, it looked pretty scary but it was actually quite fun. But gradually, I was having second thoughts and began to feel apprehensive. The ride wasn't the issue; I was more afraid that I will be tossed out from the tube in an embarrassing position and landed into the laughing crowd. :) To make it short, I didn't build up enough strength to test my courage. But if given another chance, I won't hesitate anymore.

How about you? Would you dare to ride the "Atmostfear"?

  16. There were five similar to this in the Tate Modern, London, in 2006, designed by a German, Carsten Holler. The largest of the spiralling slides is more than 55m (182ft) long and descends from the fifth floor of the venue. Holler, 44, has constructed slides before, including one at the Prada headquarters in Milan connecting boss Miuccia Prada's office and the car park.

He says studies back up his belief that slides can help combat stress and depression.
