PAGODA FOOD CITY

After Ancol Dreamland, we rested for a while at the hotel then we hit the complex of Mangga Dua Square in search of food for dinner. We decided to try a street food bazaar known as Pagoda Food City with dozens of food hawkers. It has a Chinatown structural design featuring pagodas and tiled roofs decorated in bright reds.

Hb was instantly attracted to order two bowls of Tom Yum Goong (a hot and sour soup with shrimp), while it wasn't easy for me to decide what to order, but I finally made my pick - the Chicken Herbal Soup. We sat at a table covered with a canopy. The atmosphere was comfortable. No doubt, this is one place in Jakarta that locals frequent.

My taste buds seemed to be not yet developed enough to appreciate the food that I ordered. I guess this is an acquired taste. I gave my meal to hb, and watched him gobbled it down with great gusto of appreciation.

I ordered again a set meal from the next stall. But then the food was way too oily. The only saving grace for me was the milk shake beverage (I forgot the exact name).

After we finished our dinner, we bought some snacks on the lower level of Mangga Dua Mall and made our way back to the hotel.

If you happen to be in Mangga Dua Square complex and you appreciate street foods and looking for a cheaper option, then you might want to visit the Pagoda Food City. The food bazaar is separated into two parts: a national and halal food section, and an oriental food section.
