IWAHIG PRISON AND PENAL FARM

After Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center, the tour then proceeded to Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, a correctional institute and the country's largest prison camp located in Barangay Iwahig. Most of the inmates here live with their families in the rehabilitation areas.

As soon as you entered the area, visitors can view a large hectare of open field farm cultivated and self-managed by its inmates. Most of the penal farm lands are dedicated to rice and seedlings production.

After about 10 to 15 minutes of travel, we eventually made our way over to a Livelihood Center. Inmates are also known for making various handicrafts and hand carved items that are for sale such as guardian figures called as "bulol", native hats, different sizes of rain sticks, native accessories like earrings, necklaces & bracelets, ball pens, and there are crocodile-related key chains and a lot more.

We did a bit of shopping here where I got several key chains (8pcs. for Php 100.00) and ball pens (3 for Php 100.00).

I saw this adorable timeless rocking chair. It was huge and very well made. I really wanted to buy it for my Mom. (My mother was still alive at that time.)

But since we were in a group tour, I was too practical to seriously entertain the thought plus it would be very inconvenient for us to bring a large piece of furniture. So, to make the story short, I wasn't able to buy the priceless chair. :(
