Our next stop was the Floating Garden Observatory located on the top floor of the Umeda Sky Building which happens to be a city landmark. The structure is actually consists of two 40-story towers that are connected at the top with a bridge and an escalator crossing the wide atrium-like space in the center.
Observatory admission ticket (¥700) takes you to the glass enclosed area and the rooftop corridor called "Lumi Sky Walk" for an open air 360-panoramic view.
For lovers, you can purchase an engraved heart lock (¥1000) and attached it to the padlock wall. Please note padlocks are available after 7pm only.
Panoramic views are truly amazing but was too exhausted already too fully enjoy.
On our way out, there was an event that we happened to see. When I spotted these elderly women wearing beautiful "yukatas", gradually the air was being inhaled back into my deflated body. I think I have a thing for women in kimonos and yukatas. :D They are always a lovely sight!
Umeda Sky Building is just too far to walk especially on an extremely hot afternoon from Umeda station. But I like that the place is not as touristy as other attractions and you can stay however long you want. Oh, and on another note the Floating Garden Observatory was also featured on Amazing Race 12 in leg 10.
Umeda Sky Building is located in Oyodonaka, Kita-ku, Osaka. Observatory admission, 10am-10:30pm daily. Map (here)
Till next time,
