DATE WITH THE HONG KONG STARS

Late in the afternoon, HB and I decided to go on a date with the Hong Kong celebrities, and meet them at "Avenue of Stars" located along the shore of Hong Kong's Victoria Bay. Hm, what a perfect place to go on a date, no?

It sounded like a good idea at the time, but I ended up pretty much exhausted. It was a long half an hour walk from Eaton Hotel to Avenue of Stars. Twenty minutes past, I was already sweating like crazy and my feet wrenched in torturous way because of the extra strain from wearing wedge shoes. (What was I thinking?) When we got there, I was too dazed to even feel excited. Plus it was cloudy which was kind of a drag. :( But then I reminded myself I was there for a special date.

At the entrance, we were greeted by a stunningly beautiful usherette (a 4.5-meter tall Hong Kong Film Awards sculpture). But I told her not to escort us and just stay there to welcome other guests. hehehe

We were immediately confronted with a large crowd. We shuffled a few steps and saw a series of movie-related sculptures displayed at the Avenue.

Unfortunately, I had to answer the call of nature and went to a nearby restroom. Besides, I also wanted to fix myself up to look more fresh and presentable with our date. :))

Feeling relieved and rejuvenated, we started walking again the wide promenade. And our rendezvous started when we came across some of the Hong Kong popular stars of the golden screen.

I had a tough time deciding exactly who should I be dating. I'm torn between Jackie Chan and Chow Yun Fat, but wait my heart says it should be Jet Li. hahaha (Dream on girl!) However, I was waiting for a very special person and you'll see him later. (I'm fortunate HB is a very understanding man.) hehe

While we were looking for our special date, we spotted some cutely-designed mobile carts selling light refreshments, drinks and souvenirs.

We then caught a good sight from a distance a man in Kung Fu fighting stance. I knew it was time for us to meet him.

Folks, let me introduce to you the most renowned martial arts actor... (loud drumbeat sound) Bruce Lee! The area was a bit crowded; he was surrounded by fans who wanted some souvenir shots. We waited for a while to get the crowds dispersed. Then we had our special photo session with him.

We wouldn't want to take up any of his precious time since he had a very busy TV and film schedule. So, we said our goodbyes. lol

Okay, it's time for me to wake up! And stop this made up half-fictional nonsense. hehe

We continued our self guided walking tour until we reached the last portion of the waterfront promenade.

As we headed back we noticed the Aqua Luna's Harbour Cruise scheduled for a night sailing. It is one of Hong Kong's last remaining red-sail Chinese junk boats. Ticket starts at HK$180 including a free cocktail aboard. Regrettably, we never tried this.

We had managed to truly relax and enjoy the sights of Hong Kong's stunning skyline and Victoria Harbour. Though a bit windy than I had anticipated, it was nice to sit on the bench and just people watch.

One piece of advice for women, avoid wearing knee-length dresses and short flared skirts unless you really want to look like the famous pose of Marilyn Monroe with her white skirt blowing up. hehe

Avenue of Stars stretches for about 440 meters along the shoreline. Its architecture was modeled after the Avenue of Stars of Hollywood, USA. It's a perfect setting for a leisurely walk.

The New World Group constructed the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade in 1982. In 2003 the group sponsored HK40 million for the construction of the Avenue of Stars. This promenade is a salute to eminent Hong Kong film workers for their devoted contribution to local and world theaters.
