SCORCHING MANILA'S SUMMER HEAT!

Tuesday, May 18, 2010 Published by JUNE (An Asian Traveler) under , , , , , , , ,

It's summer here in the Philippines. The frigging temperature in Manila is scorching and the humidity is unbearable. The sweltering heat emanating from the sun's rays in this peak summer can really bring a frown to the face of many. Moreover, close to a million of households had suffered the 1-2 hour daily rotational brownout schedule for the past few weeks making the situation worse. *arrgh* Good thing, it's back to normal now. *yay*

What's the favorite summertime treat to beat the heat? Well, aside from gulping gallons of water in an effort to combat the heat, most of us probably would like to gobble down oodles of popular drinks and cold desserts such as ice cream, halo-halo, chilled juices and thick shakes.

Oh, what a perfect way to beat the scorching heat!

How I miss the cold season in Shanghai. So peeps, what's the weather in your place right now?

  • I WANT all of those. It is really hot here too in Florida and these look amazing. I am not familiar with halo-halo. What's in it?

  • Hi Arlene,
Halo-halo is a mixture of shaved ice and milk with sweet preserved beans(red beans, chick peas), coconut meat (macapuno), jackfruit (langka), pounded dried rice (pinipig), sweet yam (ube), cream flan (leche flan), shreds of sweetened plantain (saba), and some are topped with ice cream.

You must try this Filipino dessert if you happen to visit the Philippines. ;)

  • It's so true, the weather here really sucks! I'm perspiring to the max when I go outside.

  • Hi trixie,
    You're not alone. I always feel like I'm in a sauna. :)

  • Well, its been kinda hot this summer. I tried going to resorts or even stay in an air-conditioned room for almost a day!

  • Last night, we had a brown-out from 10:00pm to 3:00am. It was so hot and the baby couldn't sleep and kept on crying. My wife and I couldn't do anything. The sweltering hot climate almost suffocated us :(

My wife and I love those halo-halo from Chowking. We used to eat together halo-halo during summer or when the climate is so hot...

  • Ey! I love this post. Makes me miss pinas more. It was a torture looking at the pics. Sarap!!! =)

  • It's hot in Kuala Lumpur too. More air conditioning than necessary to cool down.

  • Hi June! With all those lovely ice creams there won't be a problem beating the heat... ;)

Sorry for the absence, but my computer broke down and I’ll be waiting a month for it to be fixed… ;-( Anyhow, I left you a post on the suburbs of Ephesus for you to enjoy. Have a great weekend!!

  • hahaha it's damn chilly now here in frankfurt... supposed to be warm though >< anyway i dont like chowking, too commercialised ><

  • Hi June! No news?

Blogtrotter Two is departing Turkey 2009! Enjoy the views and have a great week ahead!!

  • Really, it has been really hot these days. We all need those refreshments to beat the heat. Maybe going to the beach would be a wonderful option too.

  • mmm... i'd love to have some halo-halo right now, even amidst the rainy season!
