SAN-PU ANTIQUES MARKET

October 30, 2008

Venturing out on our own around the city of Taipei, we stumbled upon the San-Pu Antiques Plaza / Market at the corner of Xinsheng and Bade Roads. As the name suggests, this is the place for the antiquarians and collectors. There are at least 30 antique shops / stalls in the basement of the Sanpu building, situated close to the Kuanghua Bridge.

This market is visited mostly by locals and tourists alike browsing the many shops stretching from indoor to sidewalks. It has a flea market ambiance with cluttered display of statuettes, ornaments, jade pieces, porcelain vases, bowls, coins and mixed chinoiserie.

You may take your time to mosey around the stalls as they offer a dizzying array of items. And for the assiduous scavenger you can probably unearthed unexpected interesting collectibles here. Just remember to bargain and, time permitting, go on weekends as more vendors congregate at this antique market.
